More Marvelous Monster Skin Rugs!

A few weeks ago I shared with you a wonderful felt monster skin rug by Joshua Ben Longo of Longoland. Now, I've got some furry friends to keep him company created by The Monster Workshop's Stitches and Glue.

Handmade from luxuriously super soft faux fur with a faux suede underneath (making it less hard wearing on surfaces) this rug measures 30" by 40" and the head is delightfully stuffed for a pillow-like effect.

Each rug is carefully hand crafted, with close attention to detail. The facial features are hand painted and treated with a protective seal. Each claw is hand cast with a cushioned paw.

Please Note: these are NOT toys and are NOT suitable for young children (because it would scare the beejezus out of them). $350.00 USD, Buy the Genuine Monster Skin Rug shown above here at The Odd Luminary

More Monster Rug Options

The Large Luxury Monster Rug (only one available):
The Monster Workshop also has this nice large furry monster (a one-off) available for purchase. This luxury long haired faux fur pelt is super soft to the touch and makes an eye opening centerpiece.

A completely handmade one off creation made from the highest grade materials available. He has colour casted cushioned front claws and handcast and painted facial features.

Measures 70"x50" with a faux suede base that won't scratch the floor.

New Monster Skin Rug, now in Grey, from Longoland.

Joshua Ben Longo, whose wonderful Monster-like creations I profiled here has just come out with a grey version of his fabulous ivory Monster Skin Rug.

Now available in either off-white or grey, the industrial wool felt rug has a mouth made of polymer clay.

The Monster Skin area rug measures approximately 36" x 50" (91cm x 127cm).
Because they are handmade, each rug will vary slightly from piece to piece.

Monster rugs, rugs with teeth, and bearskin rugs made of anything but bearskin, seem to be all the rage these days. So, I thought I'd share some with you.

First, a design and blog favorite, Joshua Longo's Monster Skin Rug, about which I was one of the first to write in a previous blog post:

Eelko Moorer's Rubber Urethane Bearskin Rugs:
The brown, black and white rugs are specifically hand cast and made to order. Other colors are available upon request.

The original model has been executed by hand in clay. From this, a silicone mold has been made for the subsequent rugs. The rugs are all numbered and have a signature cast in the back:

The Blanket Statement by Lise Lefebvre:

The artists' own description: Blanket statement is a contemporary bearskin rug handmade from reclaimed traditional Dutch blankets. These one of a kind rugs showcase the intricate patterns and thick sturdy construction while hinting at another traditional décor style.

I don't know if the artwork below was inspired by some of the above rugs or not, but they would be a fun compliment.

So, given the trend, I guess it's time to get the monsters out from under the bed and place them square in the living room.

The Chrissy Skin Rug by Chrissy Conant.
Addendum: A reader mentioned being surprised there were no "humans as animal rugs", which reminded me of one of my favorite artists' pieces, which I simply had to add.  Thanks for the reminder Amy!
